Art in the making is one of the popular exhibitions that highlight art made in the shed. Members of the gallery have a diverse range of artworks all made in this versatile location.
Talented watercolour artist & valued TOTT Committee Member Christine Murphy was on hand to officiate at the opening of the latest exhibition ‘Art in the Making’. In her opening address, Christine paid special tribute to this most diverse of buildings saying:
“Sheds can conjure up a variety of memories for us all.
They may be a place of storage here in the hills of farm
machinery, a winery, or a place for the ‘stuff’ that doesn’t fit in the
house, and where things get lost in amongst pieces of wire and old
wood. Full of bits that are treasure to some and junk to others.
The display around you today, includes the work of many who use
a shed as a location for artistic creations.
Just imagine the different shed clutter of all these creators….
Sawdust and wood shavings spread about, burn marks on clothes
from hot spatters, or stains from paint and dyes, muddy clay marks,
fingers in bandages from sharp tools and paper cuts.
Bins of ‘special’ items that will surely have a use one day. Paint
tubes scrunched up, and the odd coffee cup here and there, with a
music playing device squeezed in somewhere. This is the story of
the shed creative refuge that culminates in what you see here. “
